A big win for the country could be a disruption to Colorado Springs.
For that reason, it is simultaneously exciting and troubling to learn about Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers making President Donald Trump’s short list of potential appointees to replace James Comey, who was fired this week as director of the FBI.
“Colorado’s John Suthers would be an excellent choice to lead the FBI,” tweeted U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner.
To some throughout the country, the mayor of Colorado Springs might seem an odd choice to head the federal government’s primary law enforcement bureau. They might ask how governing a city of a half million people relates to federal law enforcement.
To those who know Suthers, his qualifications are not in question and would be difficult to match.
