The January march and rally in downtown Denver has a date and a new name — well, spelling.
Organizers for the third annual event are now spelling it the “Womxn’s March” to “include all women, all backgrounds and intersectionality.”
The date is Jan. 19. The time for events to begin in Civic Center park hasn’t yet been set. The rally there will follow a short march around downtown.
Updated information will be posted on the march’s website.
The march will celebrate the gains made this year in electing women to office, “especially those from targeted and marginalized communities,” as well as the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements.
“The Womxn’s March Denver is launching today with the ‘x’ in our name, because we believe in equity and we act with purpose to make space for trans, non-binary, and genderqueer persons in our name,” according to a statement from march organizers. “But it is not enough for us to be inclusive in language only. We must all commit to doing the work. We must speak our truths and listen to others speaking theirs. We must commit to anti-oppressive principles and goals, with marginalized persons at the center of our movements. We must act, to dismantle systems that harm, and to create new systems that uplift.
“The Womxn’s March is more than just a day, it’s a global movement, a lifetime commitment, and a personal journey.”
